| hi, how long are you choking it for? if it is even a little cold expect atleast 45 seconds of choke. these thing are cold blodded but once they are warm they run good. if that dosent work change the plug and check for spark. |

The fix is easy... There is an obstruction in the idle jet.
Remove the fuel line from the carb
Loosen the air cleaner and remove it
Remove the two bolts that hold the carb to the intake manifold.
Unscrew the carb top from the carb and pull the slide and needle assembly out..
Take the carb away from the bike, flip it over and drain the fuel out of the carb, (it will run out).
Flip the carb over and undo the two screws on the bottom of the carb that hold the float bowl on.
Remove the float bowl by lifting it straight up.
Next, remove the float and needle by pushing the pivot pin out through either side and lift the float assembly straight up, taking the needle wuth it..
You will see two brass jets near the center of the carb. One is directly inline with the center of the carb, that is the main jet. Next to the main jet is a smaller brass jet that is a bit lower. That is the idle jet. Unscrew it and remove it from the carb. Blow through it and hold it up to the light and look through it.
The hole is small but you should clearly see light through the end.
If you can not see light, try blowing through it with compressed air or squirting a little carb cleaner through it.
If you still can not see light through it, get one strand of a fine piece of wire, (like one strand of a speaker wire). Cut about a two inch piece and work it through the hole in the jet to clear the obstruction.
Blow it out and you should see light through the end.
Once it is clear, reassemble the carb in the reverse order you took it apart... noting a few things...
1. When replacing the jets, don't nick them with the screwdriver and don't over tighten them... just snug!
2. When reinstalling the float and needle, drop them in as a pair, just as they came out and don't bend the tang that the needle clips to.
3. When installing the float bowl, take care that the gasket is correctly in place.
4. when reinstalling the slide and needle, the slide has to go in so it will drop all the way down. You will see a notch on the bottom of the slide and a long slot running the length of the slide on the other side of the slide. The side with the long slit will line up with a little pin you can see when looking down the slide bore.
Put the carb and air filter back on the bike
If there is not a fuel filter in the fuel line, go to a local bike shop and buy an inline fuel filter, (3/16" barbs) and cut the fuel line and install it, (this will prevent future obstructions from entering the carb).
Sounds like more work than it really is... should only take about 20 minutes to do...
Good luck~ |
