|
|
Hi Folks,
Need help (no mechanics where I live - Pangnirtung, Nunavut in the Canadian Arctic). What may be the causes and what are the solutions or things to try in order to get my Honda ATV running again. Below are the details:
Before Storing my Honda TRX 250 for Winter (I live in the Canadian Arctic where temps drop to -40 F on many days), it started fine.
Before storing (November):
-Gas tank was about half full
-removed battery
-changed oil
After Storing (Late March):
Engine turned over, but would not start
-changed spark plugs, removed old gas, changed oil again
The Honda TRX250 was stored outside in the winter wrapped tightly in a tarp. However, the hose coming out the gas tank must have been pulled off during this process - a detal that perhaps may be relevant.
Addtional details
I changed the oil in Early July - the oil was brownish in color and more "liquidy than normal. Changed the oil again in November- oil was previously changed early July - during this oil change, the oil was the same color and consistency as the Early July oil change - brownish and more liquidy than normal). I started the engine and let it run for about 5 minutes, Than put it away. I checked the oil about week later and was surprised to see that it was already changing color (slightty "muddy" looking). Removed battery and Did nothing else.
Because even summer "warm" temperatures are on average about 59-68 degrees F (15-20 Celsius), apparently condensation is an issue.
Thanks, in advance, for any help /suggestions provided |

| Well I would guess that your carburetor will have to be removed and cleaned out, I don't know if you can get a carb rebuild kit where you live but it may be worth the money to go that route. |

I agree ! untreated gas over the winter storage will turn to solid in your carb
try removing the carb and soaking it overnight in a gas additive called seafoam. this worked great in my snowblower when it wouldn't run after summer storage
good luck MICKEY D |
