I have a 1998 Polaris 425 Magnum that at times you can't shut the engine off. It doesn't matter if the engine is cold or hot. You can turn the key to the off position and or slide the kill switch to the off position and it keeps on running. The only way to shut the engine down is to choke it and snap the throttle a few times and it will usually die. When this problem is activated the engine runs poorly-sort of like the reverse override feature-only not that bad. You can be going along with it-the problem-activated and the engine running very poorly and all of a sudden it will snap out of it and run just fine. Then the key and kill switch work as intended. I went to the Polaris dealer where I bought it new and they have never heard of one doing this. They said they called Polaris and they have not heard of this either. The dealer made me a copy of the electrical schematic and said good luck. Anybody else ever have this problem and if so how did you fix it?
Thanks,

| Yes, I have the same problem. I have had the ignition switch replaced and also the stator assy. Mine will start with the pull cord when it won't start with the electric starter also. I'm thinking the cdi unit may be the problem. Dave |
