I see lots of brands/companies stating their oil is the best. Is oil just oil. I know about weights and synthetics but is an ATV oil any better?

Duneman your absolutely right, oil is oil. No oil is really better than any other.

| i use 15w40 on high mileage atvs. the lower oil might be to thin and seep through the head gasket and cause the the atv to smoke. |

It MUST be formulated for powersports use if the machine is running any sort of wet clutch system. Aside from that, Amsoil is the leader in synthetics that last about 4 times longer than conventional oil. Heavier oil in the summer, light in the winter. 20-50 and 10-40

AS AN AMSOIL DEALER, I WILL SET YOU STRAIGHT. YOU THINK IM GOING TO TELL YOU AMSOIL IS THE BEST?WRONG!HERES THE LOW DOWN. AS LONG AS THE API LABEL ON THE BACK HAS THE SAME RATINGS SF SF ETC. THEY ARE THE SAME HOWEVER THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SYNTHETIC AND STANDARD. SYNTHETIC LAST LONGER BECAUSE OF BETTER ANTI WARE AGENTS. IT HAS MORE OF A TENDANCY TO ATTRACT TO HEAT.
NOW IN A FREE AIR ENGINE STICK WITH 10W-40 OR HIGHER. AND IN LIQUID COOLED AN 0W-40 UP TO 10W-40.
IN THE FREE AIR THE ENGINE DOESN'T RUN AT A CONSISTANT TEMP SO A HEAVER VISCOSITY HELPS PROTECT. |
