Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. I've been on others with this same question and haven't had any luck. I own a 1988 Honda 300 Fourtrax. I've taking the carburator apart and cleaned it (did not change any parts - the old ones seemed fine). I cleaned out the gas tank and then I cranked that baby right up. It runs great without missfire and great throttle response. Here's my prob. At any givin time whether it has just been started or it is hot, the idle speed just gradually gets faster till it is idling really fast. If I hit the gas it still just idles fast. The only way to make it slow down is to shake the entire bike. As I shake the bike the idle speed decreases and if I keep on shaking it will die out. The throttle cable is let out as much as possible and not sticking. I have a Clymer repair manual and one thing is that it will only run with the choke in the on position (pushed left) and if I try to position it anywhere else it just kills on the spot (like turning the key off). Can someone at least give me a starting point?

since you can stop the problem by shaking the atv. it has to be a moving part. that only leaves the valves and carb. i am thinking you float in your carb is getting jamed. easy to fix. just get a carb kit. they are about $25. you might be able to get one from e-bay. it will come with float valve and jets for you carb.

HI, just came to sight myself. sounds like your low speed jet is pluged or dirty. you said it will run with choke on so must not be getting right amount of fuel on idle. like post before, clean or get carb kit. good luck!
