|
|
Hi there,
I just bought a Jackal 50R for my little girl... We just got back from a trip to Colorado and she absolutely loves it! Thanks for your help Barton!
One thing though... the footbrake on the Jackal 50R is a bit hard to press down and brake effectively... especially when she is wearing riding boots (the space for her foot seems a bit small). Has anyone ever tried to rig up a handbrake to aid in braking?
It sure would make me feel more comfortable if there was a way to do that since she basically coasts to a stop (instead of stopping quickly) right now as she is trying to put pressure on the foot brake.
Anyone ever tried this or know of an aftermarket Mod to accommodate a handbrake?
Thanks!

My units will arrive tomorrow. Let me take a look at them and see what I can come up with. We seem to have a talent for figureing out improvements.

Thanks Chris...
Handbrake could be for the front or back... preferably the front... but it may be easier to mod it for the back.
I certainly appreciate it... Good Luck and let me know!

Well, not as well as I had hoped. Seems most people have never heard of them, and have a bad case of 'too good to be true' syndrome after they hear the price. There has been lot of interest, though, so I thinks we will be fine.
Back to your problen....
Seems to me that a lighter spring would solve the whole footbrake issue. However; I am going to try to cannibalize one of the bicycles we have laying around for a handbrake.
But I really think the foot brake is the way to go for a youngster. Think about it. When you are not in control of a car (as in 'passenger') and you see an obstacle before the driver, the first thing you do is extend your hands to the dash and feet to the floor. As if to push the obstacle AWAY from you. So I think that a youngster PUSHING a foot brake is a more instinctive; therefore, safe, option. Just my humble opinion.
I think we need to gang up on Daniel at Jackel and see what it would take to get a lighter spring. |
