Hello, I got a 1997 425 Magnum 2x4 for free! The guy said it stopped working one day, he put a new plug in and still didnt work. There it sat for 3 years. According to him there was no spark... BUT... ive got a spark. Now heres where it gets wierd. Ive always worked on honda atc's so theres more wires here...

Good spark with key on and handlebar switch on run. Strangely, good spark with key on and handlebar switch on OFF. I took apart and cleaned the switch but still happens.

Carb was cleaned thoroughly and re installed, and ive confirmed there is fuel going into the engine. I do have compression, and the exhaust is not clogged. I hooked a new battery to it and get nothing when the key is switched on. I put power to the starter and nothing.

So next I went to pull starting. With spark, compression and fuel... nothing. Not even a hint. Spraying starting fluid in does nothing either. I am really confused here nothing makes sense to me. Is it an electrical issue? Any help or direction would be greatly greatly appreciated.
PS- there is no water in the cooling system and the fan is missing its blades but I will fix that if it gets started. Is there maybe a sensor delaying starting until it sees there is a cooling system working??
Help!!!!!!!!!

if this is a 2 stroke it could be the reed valve also it may not be a hot enough spark which could be the coil or a wire with broken insulation bleeding off to ground

I have the same issues. I've checked everything, switches, wiring, have spark, compression and fuel, but it won't start. It's time for it to hit the dealer $$$. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad 1989 Polaris Trail Boss 250 2X4
