How do I itell if my solenoid or starter are acting up? I eliminated the battery as a problem by buying a new one and there is a clicking coming for the solenoid but the engine will not turn over. Is it starter or solenoid trouble? Kick starting is fine and the machine runs great.

Just jump wire past solenoid. If starter turns you know that starter is ok. Also try tapping on starter at the same time as you hit start button. If brushes are bad sometimes this will kick them in. good luck and make sure not to short out anything. If your not sure then don't try any of this.

Ok so there are two big wires on the solenoid and one bunch of smaller wires leading off to a connector. I touched a screwdriver across the two big wires ( with the key in the "On" position) and nothing happened. Does this mean solenoid is bad?

You did the right thing. just make sure that there was 12 volts passing from the big wire that was coming from battery across the screw driver to the other wire that goes to starter. if there is 12 volts there then the starter is not kicking in. did you tap on starter like I said ?

I forgot to say that if there was 12volts leaving to starter when you hit start button then your solenoid should be ok.You do have a volt meter don't you? If not then buy yourself one.You can get a cheap one for less than 10 bucks!
