1998 model Sportsman 500, running like a champ. I shut down for a few moments while working in the woods. Go to re-start and engine won't fire. After multiple attempts, I pull the plug and get no spark when grounded against the head. Had no spare plug to try, but suddenness of failure causes me to think it may be something else.
As I push papers for a living and don't hardly know enough about motors and the like, I'm hopeful someone can point me in a precise direction of where and what else to look and/or what parts I may need to have on hand for repair. Unit is at cabin located in the UP of Michigan and I figure a round trip up there and several days lost to haul it and leave it at a repair shop plus untold repair dollars makes sense to try to fix myself.
Any and all help is heartily appreciated. Thanks! |

| Thanks. Ended up taking it in to a dealer. He claimed that the stator tested bad and replaced it; pretty expensive part. I didn't and don't fully understand why a stator would work "sometimes." |
